Cougars and Haven head to Barrow

SUPPORTERS eager to get a first look of the new Barrow Raiders line up will not have to wait long with two exciting friendlies already lined up at the JF Hornby Stadium.

Coach Paul Crarey’s team, which is set to include Aussie and Italian international prop Alec Susino, will face old rivals Keighley andWhitehaven in January next year as newly promoted Barrow build up for their Championship test ahead.

Barrow have enjoyed some titanic tussles against both the Cougars and Haven over the years, and fans can expect rivalry to be just as fierce as players lock horns again.

Fresh in the memory of more than 3,000 supporters at the JF Hornby Stadium was Barrow’s epic 10-6 win over Whitehaven in the League One play-off final, a game which saw Scotland international and World Cup hopeful Shane Toal go twice over the whitewash to help push the Raiders back to the Championship.

West Yorkshire club Keighley are the first to visit Barrow on Sunday, January 14 with Whitehaven coming on Sunday, January 28. Both matches kick off at 2pm.

The games should provide an ideal preparation for the Championship, and Barrow will know who they face in the opening game of that competition with fixtures due to be released on Wednesday.

Barrow will also appear in next season’s Summer Bash at Blackpool, with a full round of Championship fixtures taking place across the Bank Holiday weekend May 26 and 27.

They will kick off proceedings against Sheffield Eagles at 3pm on Saturday followed by two 2017 high flyers as Halifax take on Featherstone Rovers at 5.15pm.

League One winners Toronto Wolfpack face Leigh Centurions in the final match of the day when they meet at 7.30pm.

The Sunday entertainment sees Toulouse Olympique face London Broncos at 1pm, while Rochdale Hornets and Swinton Lions take to the field in a Lancashire derby at 3.15pm before the Yorkshire derby between Batley Bulldogs and Dewsbury Rams at 5.30pm brings the 2018 event to a close.
