BARROW RAIDERS 48 KEIGHLEY COUGARS 14
MARGINS between Barrow Raiders and Keighley Cougars have been tight in recent seasons, but not at Craven Park as the Cumbrians bossed the show yesterday.
Flowing moves, a gritty defence and some great individual flair left the Yorkshiremen chasing shadows and the result will have put Paul Crarey’s men in a positive mood for the new League One season and cup clashes.
Jamie Dallimore, who shook off an illness before the match, was back to his explosive best, and showed he could kick goals as well as produce elusive skills. Joe Bullock was dynamic while Ran Fieldhouse ran with great power.
Despite missing a number of players before kick-off Barrow regrouped to score a convincing victory against one of their expected major League One rivals.
Dallimore, who kicked seven goals, ran the first half with a superb virtuoso performance which was capped by a brilliant solo effort.
But Barrow didn’t have it all their way in the early exchanges with Keighley Cougars pressing hard for an opener.
That didn’t arrive and when Barrow slipped into gear it was virtually one-way traffic.
A tremendous Ryan Fieldhouse flying pass set Andy Litherland up for the opener in the corner and minutes later Dallimore was the architect of the second touchdown when he released the impressive Bullock, who was on his shoulder, to score.
Barrow extended their lead through Dallimore who, after breaking free from a tackle, skipped and danced his way through the Keighley defence to score under the posts.
Jarrad Stack then showed his power to drive through a now fragile Keighley defence, with Barrow still finding time to extend their lead before the break when Fieldhouse, caught on the fifth tackle close to the line, left an opportunity for Dan Abram, who gleefully took his chance to drive over close to the posts.
Keighley earned an early reward in the second half with Josh Casey going over, and their determination continuing as they looked to add to their score.
But Barrow stormed back when Litherland scored a second touchdown and Dallimore kicked the extras.
As the half progressed Keighley added a further try when Adam Ryder slipped under a challenge to score.
However, Barrow came back and a storming break was completed when triallist Tom Loxham scored in the corner with Dallimore again kicking the goal.
Keighley restored some pride as Callum Dunn finished off a fine move with Matty Beharrell on target with his goal attempt.
Barrow continued to pile on the agony for the visitors as Shane Toal raced in after collecting from Litherland and Brad Marwood kicked the goal.
