IMPACT forward Andrew Dawson will pull on a Barrow Raiders jersey for the next two years after agreeing a deal with the Craven Park club.

Retaining the services of the tough-as-teak pack star is a huge boost for the Raiders who are preparing for another concerted tilt at promotion after going so close last season.

Millomite Dawson has been with the club for a number of seasons and his no-nonsense displays when coming off the bench have won plenty of admirers.

Director of rugby Andy Gaffney is once again expecting big things from Dawson and said: “Andy Dawson is a player who makes a massive impact whether starting or coming off the bench.

“We feel he still has loads of improvement in him even though, at times, he probably doesn’t realise how good he can be.

“We will continue to help him improve and reach his full potential.”

Head coach Paul Crarey, chairman Mike Sunderland and Gaffney have been working extremely hard in the off season to prepare a strong and competitive side and as well as retaining the services of many key players from last season have been hard at it bringing in new talent to bolster an already impressive side.

In have come players like exciting half-back Lewis Charnock, strike centre Declan Hulme, second rower Jarrad Stack and other class acts Tom Walker, one-time Barrow Island amateur Brett Carter, along with former royal marine Tom Loxam.

The Raiders get their first run-out on Sunday, December 18, when they face a Barrow and District Select at Craven Park (kick-off 2pm).

It will be the first chance for supporters to see the new Raiders in action as they prepare to hit the ground running come the start of the League One season when they will host York City Knights in the opener on Saturday, March 4.
