New Signing to the Coaching Staff… Paddy Maher!
Paddy joins us after working with previous clubs Barrow AFC, Castleford Tigers and most recently Cumbria Storm. Paddy has a degree in Sport Science and is currently completing a degree in Strength & Conditioning Science.
Paddy will be using his wealth of experience by carrying out strength, training and rehabillitation work, while at the same time working with the academy team.
Paddy was delighted to join the Raiders, saying that “I wanted an opportunity to be part of an up and ongoing progressive environment. I phoned Paul (Crarey) and asked if there was any opportunities to be part of the backroom staff and he invited me down for a meeting and we got on very well. Paul said there was a role for me so Paul approached the board and they came up with a package that would allow me to come and work with the club. Since being at the club, I have found that it is a very professional environment and up to now it has been very rewarding. I am very surprised how far they have come in such a short period of time.”
Head Coach Paul Crarey said that “I think that he’s a great addition to the coaching staff, weights and injuries have been something that we haven’t been able to monitor because we’re only part-time coaches. As the club’s growing, with the academy and with injuries taking place in our squad, it’s an area we wanted to improve and we wanted somebody to come in with that professional background in strength and rehab as lads with injuries have been left to their own devices really and we haven’t had time to look after them. Paddy has brought that professionalism and expertise that will probably take us to another level which is a massive part of the modern day game. We have put a programme in place but the lads have been left to their own devices but now we have someone who actually monitors it. With his professional background and experience with Barrow AFC, Castleford and Cumbria Storm we feel like we are very lucky to get him. Paddy is very enthusiastic, very easy to get along with and the lads are benefiting already from his professionalism and his expertise. I would like to thank the board for allowing us to bring him in and I would like to thank Paddy for actually picking up the phone and wanting to be part of organisation. It’s another big step forward for the club.”
