Matty Holmes Signing
Barrow Raiders are delighted to announce that Matty Holmes has signed a 2 year deal from previous club Walney Central.
After a few talks with Matty, he has decided to sign Pro.
“I wanna fill my potential!” said Matty, “I want, I guess, what every young player wants. To be as good as I can be!” “I’ve been training pre-season with the lads now for a month almost, they’re a cracking set of guys. Made me feel dead welcome. Im loving the training. looking forward to playing my first game. Im hoping that’ll be in our 1st friendly on 27th Dec but if not i’ll keep working away, grafting, doing the training till I get my chance.” Matty continued, “Cresta’s got everything in place for me to fulfil my potential, he’s got Ryan (Fieldhouse) working on all our nutrition plans, measuring fitness and body fats n that. Mossy’s hammering us in the gym, tadge has us running all over. Its a bit tough going, but honestly im loving it!”
Head Coach, Paul Crarey said that “Matty is a young age local lad with huge potential, a strong runner with a great attitude and a big future ahead of him. He trained with us last year but wasn’t quite ready to turn pro but now he feels he is ready which is great news for the club and supporters. He was a stand out player in the local ranks for a few years now and ive always rated him. I’ve told him the same as I told all the lads. There’s only 1 rule, we’re not cutting any corners this year. Im demanding 100% and nothing less will do. If i’m honest they’re buying in it, big time.” “I’ll tell ya what Barrow rugby fans want!” Crarey continued, “What they wanna see is a player trying his best, full commitment, tackling hard, running through steel to make a tackle or pick up a loose ball. Many times last year we showed that. Players having to come back on injured, players starting who weren’t 100% fit, lads so exhausted they could hardly walk off the pitch. That’s what is required. Nothing less. And I think young Matty like the rest of this squad can deliver that!” “
Director of Rugby, Andy Gaffney said he is very pleased with the signing. “He is a very hard trainer and a very tough player. I’m sure he will make the transition from amateur to pro well. Matty has a great opportunity to have a long and successful career at Barrow. His attitude at training is very good and he equally has a great attitude off the field.”
